Summer Camping

Since it finally feels like summer here in North Dakota we have been going camping the past two weekends. This weekend we went to Beaver Creek Recreation Area which is where Beaver Creek flows into the Missouri River west of Linton, North Dakota.  The view is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and I have seen some great views.  I just love the looks of the Missouri River.

The prior weekend we camped at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park south of Mandan, ND which is on the east side of the Missouri where the Heart River flows into it.  It has long been one of my favorite places to go.  Both places have something for each of us that we like.

We just had barely two days at Beaver Creek.  Mostly I enjoyed the rest.  Tim and Daniel went fishing but didn't catch much.  The dogs and kids went swimming.

Our older daughter Whitney came for the day on Sabbath.  Of course she brought her dog, Jade, who loves to swim.  As the day was sunny and warm we headed to the shore of the creek to enjoy the sun, warmth, and water.  Jade was almost tireless in getting her toy out of the water.  It didn't take long for Daniel and Leah to start to swim even though there were weeds brushing up against their legs.  Elly, our dog, was brave and went in the water up to her belly.

Earlier we had taken the dogs down to the dock as Whitney wanted to see if Jade would jump off the dock to fetch her toy.  Of course she did.  Since Elly is half boxer she can't swim well.  I didn't have her life jacket on her at that point but I wish I would have.  After Jade had jumped off the dock for about 10 minutes Elly decided she would, too.  That was so not like her!  I was so surprised.  As Whitney was right there she reached down and rescued Elly.  That kind of ruined it for Elly and it took her awhile before she felt comfortable by the water again.  But she did get over it.

Having the "new" camper is nice.  We have more room and it takes barely any time to get things ready to go and clean out when we get home as I leave mostly everything in there and keep the fridge running.  I'm already looking forward to the next time.
