Of course Daniel was very pleased to get glasses and had a hard time waiting for them. Last Friday they finally came. He has been very faithful about keeping them cleaned. He only has to wear them indoors when he is reading, on the computer, or watching tv. I think he looks very nice in them.
What he really liked about this pair is the gold inlay in the bows.

We had a good final week in Canada. We also studied about Greenland. In Hero Tales we read about the missionary, George Muller. I've always liked reading about him and the faith he had for God to provide for him. He started a large orphanage for poor children. One of the things he never did was ask for money. He would just pray about the needs of feeding, clothing, and housing the orphans in his care. God always provided for them. One time they had absolutely no food. All the children were coming to sit down for breakfast when a baker stopped and asked if they could use some bread. The baker said he woke at 3:00 a.m. with the urge to bake bread for the orphans. Then a wheel fell off the milkman's wagon right in front of the orphanage. The milkman gave them the milk. That was their breakfast. George said it was a treat as they never had fresh bread!
Canada has many maple trees. The maple leaf is on their flag. In art we made maple leaf prints. We took some air dry clay, rolled it into a nice flat surface, and pressed a maple leaf lightly onto the clay. It made a good print. After the clay dried the children painted the leaf imprint.

On Friday we had our Canadian Feast. Daniel made a blueberry dessert mostly by himself. It was delicious. I made "Moose Stew." Since we had no access to moose meat I bought some sirloin steak and used it for our stew. The recipe called for turnips and parsnips which I had never had. The stew turned out well and there wasn't any leftover.
The weekend went by too quickly. The L. family came over after church. We hadn't seen them for awhile and had a great visit. Ryan and Whitney were here as well. After supper the children watched a movie and we adults played BLURT!. That was so much fun!
On Sunday I made my last batch of tomato sauce. I only have 1 big bucket of tomatoes left. Some are green and some are turning color. Those I will just can whole. It is nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
The next three weeks in school we will be studying South American countries. Today for the first time we played the South America geography game. Both Daniel and I thought it easier than North America as there aren't as many countries. Next week we will play with both the South and North America boards. We did a fun art project today. But I will save that for a later post.
