We finished our study of South America. On Friday I prepared a meal for Sabbath using a cookbook I got from the children's library, "Cooking the South American Way." We had chicken rice soup, chicken and beef turnovers, a vegetable salad, and a nut cake for dessert.
The children and I had so much fun making these hats! In Brazil they have a carnival where they will dress up for parades and parties. The directions for the hats and the pillowcase costumes were in "Global Art." Anytime Leah can paint she is happy!
I wouldn't make the soup and turnovers again but really liked this vegetable salad tray. I made sure I copied the recipe for it and the dressing which was just olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and crushed garlic drizzled over the vegies. The white vegies are potatoes cooked, peeled, and sliced. The carrots were steamed. Everything else was raw.
It was a good week of studies, not just cooking. One day in science we did this experiment with egg shells. We should have been able to stack more books on the shells but I didn't get the egg shells split as I should but didn't want to waste my good eggs just for an experiment! So we just went with what we had.
The big concordance crushed them!
This morning in the night Dustin came out with Tim after work so they could go deer hunting this morning and evening. They were up by 6:30 when Tim is a lot of times just getting to bed. I don't know how Tim will work tonight! Just as they were going to leave Daniel woke. He was so happy to see Dustin. We decided to let him go along with them. He sure got dressed quickly. They will only be out until 10:30 or so as the little kids and I have dentist appointments at 1:00. Then I have an appointment at 2:00 to get my hair trimmed. Since we had to leave early today we weren't planning on doing much school today anyway. It will be good for the men to have their time together.
I had planned to take the whole week of Thanksgiving off from school. We haven't taken any days off since we started and we are ready for a break. It turned out that I have 3 days this week with appointments. So we are planning to do week 12 of ECC in two weeks. Instead of taking the whole next week off we will take some days this week and some next week. It will work and I won't feel pressured.
We are now in Europe. This week's study is in Norway. Yesterday we played the geography game with the Europe board. That was hard! But I can tell by just playing it once I can name a lot more countries than I could before we played.
Before the men left I asked Dustin if there was anything he wanted for lunch. He with a little smirk on his face asked for his favorite, chicken water chestnut casserole. I've got the chicken thawing in water. Thankfully I had a couple cans of water chestnuts in my storeroom. I do try to remember to keep some on hand. For supper I will put a roast in the oven.
I best get to my preparations. I will try to remember to take some pictures.
