Brandon

Yesterday I told Brandon that I was going to write about him in my blog. He just smiled and let me take some pictures of him. Maybe some who are reading this don't know our family. Brandon is our third child. He was the baby of the family until he was 11 years old. Now he is the middle child.

Brandon graduated from our homeschool 2 years ago when he was 17. He then started college in the fall at NDSCS taking up Automotive Technology. He has always been a hands on kind of guy and did very well at college. This past May he graduated with a diploma in Auto Tech.

Last summer Brandon did his internship at RM Stoudts in Jamestown. They liked him so well they asked him to work over last Christmas break and said they would like to hire him when he finished his schooling. On spring break he planned to work there again for the 3 weeks he had off. Sometime after Christmas Stoudts had bought out another auto dealership in town and took on those mechanics. So they didn't need any help.

This summer he went back to work for Gordon and Rob, my uncle and my cousin's husband, as a farmhand. He likes the variety of working there and they are good to him so he isn't minding not working at Stoudts at all.

He always has plenty of vehicles to work on...his own, ours, and friends...so he gets lots of practice doing that anyway. So far he has put in a rear-end on a pickup for his friend, Jared. In payment Jared gave Brandon his Mazda that the motor went out on. Brandon's silver Mazda had the transmission go out a few weeks ago so he is going to take the transmission out of Jared's car and put it into his along with any other parts that will work. Then he plans to rebuild the motor from Jared's car and put it into his silver one, too, as his motor is getting bad. My brother has a Blaizer that needs a motor overhauled that Brandon plans to work on when he is done with his own. Looks like he has plenty to keep him busy this summer.

About a month ago Brandon bought a motorcycle that didn't run for $25. He got it running that night. Then he proceeded to take the whole thing apart, sand the frame and body, and paint it. Here's a picture of what it looks like now. It's a good stress reliever when he is getting tired of working on his car.

This is the motor that he took out of Jared's car and plans to rebuild. It's so nice for Daniel to have his big brother home. When Brandon is out in the shop working Daniel is right there, too.

The car the motor and transmission came out of.

Brandon working on getting his transmission off his car (I think!)

When mowing the lawn Friday Brandon saw these flowers in the ditch and picked them, put them into a vase, and set them anonymously on the table for me. Brandon, it is good having you home!!

Congratulations to Brandon! It sounds like he is a lot like Andrew in his mechanical interests...

The bouquet is really pretty too. We have some of the same kind of purple flowers growing in our front flower bed this year, and seeing as we planted a flower mix, we weren't sure if they were weeds or flowers? If they are weeds, they sure are pretty and add nice color to our bed. :)

I know what you mean about flowers and weeds. When I weeded my flower bed that I had partially planted with seeds I wasn't sure if I was pulling and leaving weeds or flowers. I guess time will tell!

Yes, we do have plans for the 4th. It's nice to be able to do something special.
